Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

This class is a traditional 8-week MBSR course as developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the UMASS, Center for Mindfulness to promote everyday well-being.   One of my hopes, once the 8-week class is completed, is that you will have learned skills to better manage your stress as well as strategies to live more fully and open to the present moment.  During the 8-week session, you'll learn practices to reduce rumination about the past and worry about the future.   You will also learn ways to bring a sense of equanimity and peace to a variety of challenging issues that may arise in your everyday life. 

  • Classes meet once per week, for 8 weeks. Each  session is about 2 hours
  • Sessions are taught in the Burns Park Area; class size  is small (6-7 people)
  • 22 hours of formal and informal Mindfulness Meditation instruction (including sitting, walking, eating, and body scan)
  • daylong silent retreat
  • gentle stretching, yoga, and mindful movement
  • group discussions aimed at enhancing well-being
